Recently visited Marvin for food, fun and drinks. The atmosphere is pretty upscale and chic downstairs. There were a few people at the bar celebrating a birthday; it's a great spot for such occasions and also perhaps for a date night. We ate first then went upstairs where we danced the night away. The DJ played all of my favorite hits from the 90s and early 2000s! It was a RARITY to find a spot that doesn't play mainstream garbage all night, major kudos to her. The upstairs rooftop was pretty packed for a Wed night. They've got ceramic heaters all throughout, the inclement weather did not stop the show.

4 stars instead of 5, for how the hostess treated us upon initial entry: we arrived at 9pm and were hastily warned that "chef wanted to close the kitchen and go home". Apparently the restaurant side had been slow for the evening, in her words, "it's expensive to keep the kitchen open", they did not see the need to remain open for our party of two. The hostess called herself going over to talk to the chef to convince him to stay and prepare our meals. Mind you this place advertises that it remains open until 10:30. It was beyond unnecessary and insulting for this hostess to tell us what business had been like and that she might have to beg the chef to cook for us. That is not something that paying customers want to hear an hour and a half before closing. Very unprofessional on their respective parts! Nevertheless the chef clearly agreed to feed us, and I had the most amazing butterfly chicken breast with waffle and collards. The waffle was just okay. The collards were great and the chicken crisped to perfection, seriously the BEST bird I've ever had. My sister had the shrimp and grits, and cleaned the bowl.

The amazing rooftop atmosphere and meal semi made up for the insulting treatment we received as a first impression. Go ahead and give them a try anyway, just go EARLY if you plan to eat cause you never know if they're gonna wanna call it a night early.
